The Sawatch Range is a narrow strip of the Continental Divide containing fifteen 14er's, most of which dominate the landscape just to the west of US 24, from Leadville to Salida. Included in this impressive array is the highest point in Colorado (Mt. Elbert) and the famed Collegiate Peaks. The Sawatch peaks are famous for their numerous hiking trails, enough to keep you busy for a lifetime. There are nontechnical routes up all these peaks, and accessibility is easy even for 2-wheel drive vehicles. Heck, some of these peaks are good for mountain biking!
