| This ascent of Challenger Point rates a difficulty of 4.0 out of 5. This is the standard approach to Challenger Point and Kit Carson from the west. While conditions from the trailhead to WIllow Lake were excellent (it's a great trail and a mellow grade for ~5 miles), above Willow Lake there was a foot or more of new snow, complicating and slowing down the 1 mile grunt from the lake to the ridgeline NW of Challenger Point. This combined with weather kept us from continuing from Challenger to Kit Carson. |
