| When the Anasazi Indians living in these cliff dwellings pulled out, they left a cool archeological attraction behind, and thousands of people a week flock there to see them and take lots and lots of pictures. Located just west of Durango, Mesa Verde is a major tourist destination and despite the teeming throngs, it's nonetheless fascinating to see. Research has shown that the Anasazi culture flourished in the area until about 1300, and then the just took off. To this day, no one knows exactly why or what happened to them. The silent cliff houses and mesa villages aren't giving up any secrets, either. |
