Located on the Colorado-Utah border north of Grand Junction, this arid badland region is a paleontologist's dream. They've built a pretty cool visitor's center and museum on the site to explain how the fossils there are dug up and preserved. In addition, the area has several good hiking trails and back country roads for taking in the scenery...and there actually is some. The Green and Yampa rivers have carved out some impressive canyons over the eons, and the rafting and kayaking through these stretches can be a blast.
