| Westcliffe is one of those picturesque little towns that makes you itchy to get the camera out and snap a few rolls of pictures around town and the magnificent Sangre de Cristos to the west. This little farming/ranching community epitomizes the small Colorado mountain town. Since its not a tourist destination per se, there's not a lot of schmaltz or goofy touristy stuff. The wooden sidewalks are for real, as are the tough yet hospitable townsfolk. The tallest structure for miles is the steeple of the town church, and the town is a mix of modern and restored storefronts. Definitely a good place to escape the tourist crunch of some other mountain areas. |
