| Located about 20 miles south of Buena Vista and 60 miles west of Canon City where the Arkansas bends to the east. This is a middling-sized railroad hub-turned-agricultural community, with the tourist industry also keeping things going. The do a lot of rafting and similar activities here for tourists. Interestingly, Salida is rapidly becoming a haven for artists. The downtown area is covered with small art galleries, and frankly, there's some pretty cool stuff, from paintings to sculptures. Here's a blatant plug - check out Gallery K on North F Street. Kay Litz does an abundance of really cool sculpture and wall-art. Just because she's a cousin of mine...it's still great art! |
