One of the highest cities in North America, Leadville residents live above 10,000 feet, which means two things - it's usually cold, and you'll sunburn in no time flat. Despite the thick skin the altitude and cold gives them, Leadvillians are a pretty cordial bunch, and most local restaurants not only serve a good meal, but do it with great service as well. There's not a huge amount of nightlife...just a few bars and whatnot, but that's OK...if you've been climbing around Massive and Elbert all day, you'll probably be too tired anyway. For anyone interested in geology and mining, the nearby Climax mine (about 12 miles north, at the top of Freemont Pass) is the largest molybdenum mine in the world, and the extent to which operations run up there is impressive. Just take the drive and see what I mean.
