| Durango is a small city (or large town, depending on your point of view) in the southwest corner of the state. Its big enough to have a city-feel to it, but small enough to still feel like a cozy mountain town. The surrounding mountains are impressive, and every road into (and out of) town is a scenic route. Among the possibilities in and around town include tons of mountain biking, river rafting, and so forth. A don't-miss attraction is the Durango-Silverton narrow gauge railroad, operating from May thru October. You'll know what I mean when you take the 45 mile trip to Silverton along this engineering marvel. In fact, the train is just about the only access to some trailheads! |
